Smashing through the radio silence….
Sorry for the big gap in posts, folks! We haven’t had internet for ages (okay, just 7 days or so but still) A week ago, we were enjoying a wonderful evening with friends in the hills near Melbourne prior to packing up for our next travel day…to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Julian has a post coming up to document our unusual travel day(s)…. As for me, I can say that the Northern Territory has no lack of flies. It does have a lack of internet access, however! Rest assured we’ve spent many hours in the campervan, travelled many — Read the Rest…

Kathmandu- rest for the weary

7 nights, no plans, beautiful views, friendly people, plenty of English spoken, and lots of food options in walking distance… what more could four weary world travellers want? An affordable upgrade to a roof-top room; this is our view! There is also a ‘regular’ part of the room, with a Queen bed, and another twin. So, lots of sleeping and resting space. Sometimes we can also get WiFi in our room! It’s only supposed to be accessible from the garden but our vantage point allows us access if we’re lucky. We’ve had a very long day. — Read the Rest…

live blogging from the greater Kruger Park area….

Live from Kruger, it’s Saturday Night…. The girls are making some s’mores over the firepit. Dad is enjoying some pinotage wine, South African of course Julian is off to the cabin Matt is looking pensively at the fire, having led us on two very successful game drives earlier today. John is listening to Dad’s plans to take home his hut from the camp to his backyard All of us are waiting for dinner, which is sure to be tasty!
Lunch at a winery

This is our view for a late lunch in the winelands of the Western Cape of South Africa. Don’t you wish you were enjoying a glass of local wines with us? I think even my mom would want to be here – the restaurant is wonderful, the hotel looks first rate and the surroundings are nice and quiet and safe We chose this winery completely on a whim – we drove the 45min or so from Capetown southeast to the Stellenboch area, and then turned into the first big winery that looked like a nice spot for lunch. It is — Read the Rest…
Another day, another Tipico Meal dinner
Another wonderful, quiet day in wonderful, quiet Ollantaytambo Seriously, this is the most relaxing, peaceful time we’ve had on vacation in a long time. Our trips are always fun and usually have some element of relaxing (especially as the girls get older), but this time is special. I think it’s largely because we were all so busy, nervous and excited in the lead-up to the trip (especially the portion after NJ& NYC). It’s also because we know this is just the second stop on our Trip Around The World. Wait. You need to re-read that last (bolded) part. Aloud. Doesn’t that — Read the Rest…
Jilligan’s Island
Yes, that’s a reference to a certain daughter of mine and a certain childhood favourite of mine. You know, the show whose characters go on a three hour tour and the seas start getting rough and the Minnow would be lost?? After the hustle and bustle of most of our trip, what I really want when we get to Thailand is to go directly to a beach. One far away from cities and people and boardwalk hustlers. This is apparently harder than it used to be, and is only getting harder. (I have nothing to compare to, having never been — Read the Rest…
