Shades of South Africa…. minus Grandpa

So, I decided that we should have a visit to a winery while we were in New Zealand. Today was the day, since we were driving through Marlborough in the afternoon. We had a slow start from Picton, having been delayed by sleeping in, scouring the luggage for a misplaced birthday gift, and checking out the WiFi at the local library. However, our luck held, and we arrived at Brancott Estates Heritage Centre at 3pm, just as the kitchen was closing. The Chef was kind enough to allow us to order our meals, and even sent out an amuse bouche — Read the Rest…

Greetings from New Zealand and Middle-earth
Well, NZ is every bit as beautiful as people said, we’ve made it across the north island and are about to set out to Queenstown now that we’ve taken the ferry across to the south island. We had a wonderful time at Hobbiton, and the Weta Workshop and many other Lord of the Rings sites in between. Plus some bowling!

So instead of spending the night of August 7th in our campervan, part way between Alice Springs and Uluru, we spent the night in a surprisingly large and well appointed airport hotel room in Melbourne. Everyone from this side of the world whom we’ve told about having five Tiger Airlines flights on our itinerary, has immediately squinted at us with a look of mixed concern and bemusement. Tiger, it seems, is known for not being the most reliable airline. I believe it was my aunt Janet who suggested that one of the planes might simply not be there when we — Read the Rest…

Unfortunately, hot air balloon is not going to be one of them, I don’t think. But here’s the ones that we have used…I’ll update this as we go… Honda Civic from our house to Mississauga, and then the airport Air Canada Embraer 175 from Toronto to Newark Minivan shuttle from Newark airport to Madison Hotel NJ Transit commuter train from Madison Hotel (Convent station) to Madison station Mini Cooper from Dad’s place back and forth — Read the Rest…

Smashing through the radio silence….
Sorry for the big gap in posts, folks! We haven’t had internet for ages (okay, just 7 days or so but still) A week ago, we were enjoying a wonderful evening with friends in the hills near Melbourne prior to packing up for our next travel day…to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Julian has a post coming up to document our unusual travel day(s)…. As for me, I can say that the Northern Territory has no lack of flies. It does have a lack of internet access, however! Rest assured we’ve spent many hours in the campervan, travelled many — Read the Rest…
